The Developing Solutions for Developing Countries Competition, now in its 10th year, poses a new challenge to students each year. This year, competition participants have been asked to develop a product for people living in regions of Southern and Eastern Africa, where two consecutive years of drought have resulted in rising food prices and increased food insecurity and malnutrition. With more than 38 million people affected by this drought, sustainable solutions are needed to combat these challenges. The students were asked to develop a product using primarily drought-tolerant crops for people living in one of the affected countries. The six finalist teams are:

  • Team Chikolo – Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia

  • Team Global GryphonsUniversity of Guelph, Canada

  • Team McFoodiesMcGill University, Canada

  • Team Regali – Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia

  • Team TaMuCo – Universitas Surabaya, Indonesia

  • Team Tamuuji – Washington State University, USA

Winners of the competition will be announced at the IFTSA Closing Ceremony on Tuesday evening, July 17, in the S100 Ballroom.
